Anxiety

Anxiety

Anxiety, said plainly, is your mind and body’s alarm system going off even when there’s no real danger.

It feels like worry, nervousness, or fear that’s stronger or more constant than the situation requires. Your body might react too—faster heartbeat, tight chest, upset stomach, racing thoughts—because it thinks you need to prepare or protect yourself.

Anxiety is your brain trying to keep you safe, but sometimes it hits the panic button too easily or too often. There are a number of treatments to re-train and re-orient your central nervous system and automatic thoughts. This response may be more present in certain individuals when compared to others. At birth, genetic factors contribute to a person’s experience of the world around them. Following this, everything around us (family members, surroundings, lifestyle, nature of relationships or employment) either adds to or takes away from our experience of anxiety. However. THERE IS HOPE! We don’t not have to move, get new relationships, or quit our job in order to manage our anxiety. We just may not be fully trained on how to deal with some external factors in a manner that works well for us specifically. Let us show you how!

What Does Anxiety Look Like?

Anxiety can show up in many different ways, and for many people, it does not look like obvious fear. It may feel like your mind is constantly “on,” replaying conversations or imagining worst-case scenarios. You might notice a tightness in your chest, a knot in your stomach, or a sense that something bad is about to happen even when everything seems fine on the surface.

For some, anxiety feels like never being able to fully relax. Your thoughts may race at night, or you might find yourself overthinking small decisions. You may feel easily overwhelmed, extra sensitive to stress, or irritated without knowing why. Anxiety can also create pressure to stay in control or avoid certain situations, and it can make you push yourself to keep going even when you are exhausted.

In short, anxiety often feels like your body and mind are working overtime, leaving you drained, tense, or disconnected from the present moment.

Treatment Modalities We Utilize

At Redeemed Mental Health, we use evidence-based, skills-focused approaches that help clients reduce symptoms, understand their anxiety, and build sustainable coping strategies that work for them specifically based on their own challenges. Treatment plans are individualized for every specific client and may include:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, reduce catastrophic thinking, and develop healthier behavioral responses. It is considered one of the most effective treatments for anxiety disorders.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT supports clients in building mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. These tools help individuals manage overwhelming emotions and reduce anxiety-driven behaviors.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT teaches clients to shift their relationship with anxious thoughts rather than fighting them. Through mindfulness, values clarification, and acceptance-based strategies, clients learn to move toward meaningful action even in the presence of anxiety.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

MBSR incorporates meditation, breathwork, and body awareness to calm the nervous system and reduce the physical and emotional impact of stress and anxiety.

Strengths-Based Approaches

This approach highlights clients’ existing resilience, capabilities, and personal resources, helping them build confidence and develop coping strategies that align with their strengths and values.

Collaborative Medication Management

For clients who may benefit from medications, our psychiatric providers collaborate closely with therapists to integrate pharmacological treatment with psychotherapy for optimal symptom relief.
